Christmas Eve 2011

The last couple of days have been a little sad with no family or friends, but today we went for a walk and the neighbor invited us over for a drink. My friend Amy is coming for dinner tonight and then we are doing the Canyon Road Walk. I guess it is big thing here on Christmas Eve. Canyon Road is a cool street that meanders up a hill and is filled with art galleries and a few high end restaurants.

Yesterday I baked sugar cookies. It was somewhat of a struggle with new cookie sheets, new gas oven and higher altitude, but only burnt the first batch. I have seen a darling little boy on his bike and figured out he lived next door. I decided my random act of kindess would be to take him some cookies which we did before our walk today. Wish I had gotten his picture. He was so polite and thrilled with the cookies.

One of my reasons for doing this was because when I was I was young girl we had neighbor, Mrs. Nelson, she always brought over a small basket with these powder sugar cookies in it. I remember sneaking in the kitchen and stealing cookies. They were so good and I have never tasted anything like them. You would take one bite and powder sugar went everywhere. Then one year, many years later, as a married woman I saw on the cover of Family Circle Magazine a picture that looked like these cookies from my past. I bought the magazine and make the cookies from the picture. I was so thrilled. It was them. Those lovely cookies. It turns out they are a Norwegian cookie called Fattigman. Which means poor man. Should be named fat man because they are strips of dough tied in a bow and fried. I use to make them for my mom every year. Haven't made them since she passed. Anyway, I hope the little boy remembers the lady who brought him cookies at Christmas. I almost forgot. His name was Dashel. How cute.

Merry Christmas everyone. Off to Florida for a week with Vicky and John. I promise to be a better blogger when I return. Love and miss you all.

Monday

Had a beautiful snow here today. The best part of the day was having our first visitor. Jessica, Peg Levy's daughter, called Friday and was coming to Albuqueque
Monday for business. We drove to the airport, about an hour from here, picked up the special delivery and helped her check into the hotel. Then we went to a brew pub close by for dinner and lots of chat. Jess looked darling and it always fun spending time with her. We can talk about anything and everything, just like with peg. Jess has turned into a wonderful wife, mother and has a terrific job. I met her over 15 years ago and it has been fun watching her grow. Phil took a couple of photos.

Thanks for thinking enough of us to call. We truly enjoyed seeing you. Love you dear.

sunday

all of our days seem like saturday or sunday now...and it just so happens today is sunday. Phil spent most of the afternoon in the storage unit finding hats and gloves for the upcoming cold weather. he also brought back pictures and lamps to finish the upstairs of the house. since some of my friends think I have ADD I will be posting photos in random order. but since this is my blog I can do what I want. Most of you know there is a little rebel in me and I don't always follow the rules. I followed rules all my life and think this is my time to what I darn will please.

this is a shot of the house when peg and i were here in september after securing the property. We are the one on the left. if you look at the top of the trees you can see a porch light on. That is called a sleeping porch. no screens, just a nice little perch in the tree tops. it was designed for the hot weather when it is too hot to sleep inside.

this photo was taken by phil a few days ago to show the whole house. behind is where i park my car and several more condo that were remodeled and sold.

so now when you think of me you can picture me here, in the white adobe.

need to go to bed, had a pretty wild night last night, details will definitely follow. love to all. nordie

Why we moved to new mexico

Today was exactly the reason we moved to new mexico. blue skys. mild temperatures. Phil and I went for a two hour walk. crisp air. really blue sky. mountains in the background. only t-shirts and vests. oatmeal for breakfast and then our walk around the city. Always something interesting to see.

This post is for the bikers I know. Peddle not motor. We decided to check out the bike trail. It runs along the railroad track to Albuqueque. It is called the rail runner and started up not that long ago. The purpose was to transport workers to the Santa Fe area from Albuqueque. Phil took the ride when he was here in October. We plan on riding it next week for an adventure. Lots of cool artwork on the concrete walls. Can't wait to get the bikes out of storage now.

december daily

after doing my first december daily I have realized my life is pretty boring. I am currently taking pictures and have them in a blog folder. even though I might not think it is a riviting read some you might enjoy the ride. right now i am doing xmas cards, shopping and keeping my december daily filled with pictures and daily happening in the krenc household. I plan to get into it a little more after the first of the year. my goal is make it infomative about santa fe and the surrounding area. There will be many restaurants and meals mentioned. You might want to make a note of what sounds most appealing for when you visit. Now you all promised to visit and I will keep inticing you until you do.

Today was filled with laundry, more sorting and pitching and stashing of things from the move. Phil is working on two foot stools from Habitat for Humanity. They will be painted by him and covered with fabric by me for the loft area. Trying to make tv time more comfortable.  Recycle, reuse and reduce your footprint. our new moto...

Love to all my friends. You know who you are. please check back if you are interested in more words from the adobe blanco.....
